Is it me or is the timing a bit strange.......April - just one month before a probable election.........

I was thinking more of it being a new Tax Year, what with the current scrutiny of HRH's accounts, sounds like a tax dodge to me.

The tax dodge occured to me , and my son who works for the IR, but I don't quite understand the reference to the election, what did you have in mind Oneeyedvic ?
whoopee! another tax dodger joins the family.
Could the queen be ready to abdicate?  If so then the future king of the United Kingdom (Charlie)cannot be seen to be living in sin.

I can see the Headlines tomorrow.  'Ghost of Diana is finally laid to rest' or something along those lines.

Wouldn't it be good if it was on April 1st.  Before midday.

It just strikes me that this is not a straightforward decision. There are a lot of people who are not going to be supportive / happy about the whole situation. It will also really divide the church (she's divorced).

It is a known 'fact' that something along the lines of a world cup win will always go for the government in power. Any sort of happiness in the country will increase votes for the governement - some people believe Maggie won a second term over the Falklands 'euphoria'.

It just strikes me that the Monarchy will be anti Blair / Labour and pro conservative. Something like this (I suspect) wil go against the governement.

But then, I may be paranoid........but they may still be after me anyway.......no just paranoid........

Yes but will we get the day off?!

thank you IndieSinger, that's all I want to know as well !

Not bothered about tax and votes an extra days holiday is more important !

Unlikely to be made a public holiday as it's is not designated a state event. I was watching Sky news lunch time and they wern't even sure if it would be televised. Anyway the date is April 8th, Friday.

But you'll probably be abel to buy a commemorative mug!
Or even able!

So no day off work???...........Then theres the last of my interest gone!!!...........

Oh Hang on there's thing thing of my taxes! (all mentioned I know but thats my 62p worth...was 65p till today but another slice has been snatched!!)

Hey Gee Bee, I hadn't thought of it before having no interest in (or respect for) the royal family whatsoever. But giving us a day off to help them celebrate (as if!)would certainly curry a little bit of favour with me... altogether now "For she's a jolly good fellow..."
I hope we get a day off work - it will be the only good thing that comes of another royal event.  But I shouldn't get my hopes up.  As Loosehead says it isn't a state event.  The wedding itself is unlikely to be televised live, though the 'blessing' afterwards might be.
Incidentally, oneeyedvic - I don't think the monarchy will be anti-Blair and pro-Conservative.  The Queen gets on very well with Blair, which she didn't do with Thatcher, and Charles has supported Labour in the past.  Blair's policies are no threat to the monarchy or to capitalism.  The Tories, on the other hand (for all their talk of tradition and British patriotism), put global investment and multinational corporatism first, and I think they would be quite prepared to ditch the monarchy (as the capitalist class have done in other countries) if it served their interests.
"The Queen gets on very well with Blair"

The man who wanted front row tickets to her mothers funeral?

Plus Blairs best mate (and MOST responsible for keeping him as PM) is Murdoch - not a Royal fan

Plus geting rid or peerages - not good for Monarchy

Plus appeading the Anti hunt brigade

and thats not even talking about going into Europe and the implications to the Monarchy then!
NO we won't, it is to be a private affair
What about the BeeGees then?
