// The Government was facing fresh pressure on its policy of capping immigration after the chief executive of General Electric, one of the UK's largest employers, said that the policy was damaging its ability to do business.

Mr Elborne said that in the battle for capital allocation, the added concern of the immigration cap could make the UK a less attractive place to invest for the company. //

Surely there are enough potential stem-cell research executives.and gas-turbine engineers, in the UK and the EU, that General Electrics could employ without the need of depending on India or other countries outside the EU?

No this is all about profits, labour is much cheaper to hire outside the EU.
The trouble is that for years we have been allowing in many uneducated, unskiiled, non-English speaking immigrants (you should see some of the awful low-life immigrants we have here in Birmingham) and now the country is full.

Now some companies want to being in immigrants with certain skills, but maybe we should have thought of that before having some sort of open-door policy where the dregs of the world came here.

And now our immigration "policy" (if you can call it that) has left us with a major headache as the country now has hundreds of thousands of immigrants that we neither want or need here.

And when they cant or wont get a job, what do they do, they turn to crime - drug pushing, mugging etc (our local papers are full of it).

And it used to be such a great country.
Maybe its because the 10 million unemployed in this country are unskilled or skilled layabouts who's only purpose in life is to receive the £56/week unemployment benefit. No matter that many of them have sent hundreds of job applications to companies like GE and have had no replies.
rov #he £56/week unemployment benefit. # This figure is constantly trotted out but the reality is very different . If you you are on benefit you automatically become entitled to many other benefits. Y
In addition to unemployment benefit your rent or morgage interest is paid and there is no upper limit . There was that recent case of £2000 a month being paid for rent . Your community charge is paid for you . You can even claim for utiities ,gas ,water, electricity etc, and on top of that all medical fees for prescriptions , dental care is paid for by the state . If you can get out of bed long enough to go on education courses that is also free. No wonder there is no incentive to get a job. The government is supposed to be doing something about this farce but time will tell.
Not everybody claims all these benefits but they are available if you know how to play the system and I have a neighbour who has claimed most of them for the past 20 years. He has recently retired and is being paid the state pension.
