ok sqad give me a list of countries in Europe where no matter where you are, who you are, you can get unlimited treatment no questions asked, you don't even have to give your name. Granted the facilities may be good elsewhere but they are uncivilised in their approach. I await the list with interest.
Ah ha...the report only includes:
income, prices, working culture and public spending
It doesn't take into account the intangible elements that make a country attractive: things such as culture, music, art, restaurants, comedy, telly etc etc..
Every country has its problems - but I honestly couldn't think of another country which I'd want to make my permanent base.

R1 Geezer....you ask the same question over and over again about healthcare.
There will be no list.
Quality of Healthcare is the most important and the quality of healthcare in many other European countries is as good if not better than the UK. Healthcare in the UK is good, but alas no longer the "Envy of the World" as old Labour would announce and trumpet a decade ago.
Cancer survival rates in UK are well down in the league of European Countries. Some cancer drugs not available free in the UK are available free in many European countries.

As an ex-pat all I can say is that it depends on what kind of life style you want or value. We left the UK because we couldn't afford to live there any longer and didn't like the way that society was heading and the way our environment was being degraded by industry and selfish inconsiderate neighbours. Having sold our house in the UK and having bought one in France for a quarter of the price we got for our UK one. We have a council tax bill one quarter of the UK, beautiful countryside, empty roads, a lifestyle and social life far better than the UK, wonderful food and inexpensive wine. I could not contemplate living there again I would regard living in the UK again with horror. The people here are respectful, friendly and generous.
To Vibrasphere, I did flump off and do not regret it and to Gromit .. froggieland is better than the UK by along way but wouldn't be to everybody's taste.

One thing I forgot, French telly is cr*p its all gameshows and soaps and american cop movies amusingly dubbed into french. But as we can get several hundred satellite channels for free including almost all of the UK terrestrial ones we can usually find something to watch when the occasional need arises.
Sqad is right by the way. You can get medical treatment in France before you die, because you get reimbursed for private treatment. By the time you go for private treatment in the UK because the NHSD can't 'allocate the manpower resources' it is too late, but the NHS doesn't cost a penny as they have already taken the money.

Yes sqad we get the sky news international which has some rivetting headlines on the views of an unknown Italian football manager on a proposed but unlikely transfer from one unheard of team to a lesser heard of team. There is however no television programme in my opinion that warrants paying more than the stand TV licence (compulsory here in France If you live in a house)
jomilfl well we have two Sky boxes one in the wife´s room and one in my study, as she likes soaps and I don.t. The reception is excellent, but a bit expensive but what the hell, you work all your life for a bit of comfort.
It always annoys me when people think that UK healthcare is the best in the world and all other countries are "no starters" This was drilled into us as medical students that you were the best trained in the world and you gave the highest quality of healthcare, but it was only when one met doctors from other European countries particularly France, Germany and Italy did one realise that you were being "conned" The problem with the British public is that they have only known and experienced the NHS and think that it is the "bees knees"

Although we are called the 'United Kingdom' we really are not united at all.
Scotland for instance enjoys much better facilities than England and even Wales have an edge on us.
What advantages are available to England, that the rest of the UK doesn't enjoy?

/// see what you've done nowe AOG, I'm agreeing with SP! ///
Sorry about that Geezer, but to be fair I think most people would agree with SP on those particular subjects, but once again he has taken the question completely out of context.
Britain is the worse place to live based on income, prices, working culture and public spending
Britain is the best place to live based on culture, music, art, restaurants, comedy, telly etc etc..
Every country has it's pros and cons.

/// I think AOG's approach to posting is largely based on firework safety advice: "Light blue touchpaper and retire" ///
Never known to retire from any difficult situation, unlike some I could mention,
I will not go to the trouble of making and setting off fireworks, unless I can hang around and enjoy them.
Just check on my past posts, and I think you will find me in there earnestly defending my argument, where appropriate.
