I've just heard the Speaker announce the result of the vote in the commons and I found the childish antics of our so-called professional politicians absolutely sickening. Cheering at the result of a measure that will bring further financial hardship on young people. I can't believe we pay these people to carry on like this.

redhelen...

totally agree 100% and there is something else that gets on my nerves, a student gets a NUS card, give 20% discount in shops. i agree with this for textbooks, internet cafe's etc... but last month i was in a shop and my girlfriend paid £100 for a bag and purse, 1/2 the people in the shops were students buying £60 handbags on their student card.
If they can spend this much on a bag, they aren't all that short of cash...
they should ban the 20% discount as i believe (not sure) that the discount comes from taxes at end of year, the amount of 20% discounts over the year would probably go a long way to paying for some education shortfall.

I'm not sure that all those people causing the riots are students. Theres always someone up for a bit of anarchy for whatever reason.
i'm with you boo
well said askyourgran, from sky news

Officials, activists and members of some of the country's biggest trade unions joined the march.
Hang on a sec... I know a fella from where I work, he comes from literally nothing and the less said about supportive parenting, the better, we were the first people he told his good news to as no one else gave a stuff. After working damn hard and acheiving highest grades AND having his actual disertation or whatever it is they do be something that is being looked at by the folks running his course as some sort of best practice thing, this young fella just got accepted to medical school. His brother has been accepted for a dental school. How the heck do you expect lads (or lasses) like this who have literally worked themselves out of the gutter to be taken to a level where they are worthy of their university placements?

There seems to be a whole lot of judgement and not enough thought gone in to this. These guys couldn't afford anything without some of the help they're being given to take up their placements.
I think the serious student will be appalled at the behaviour of these young vandals. Dr Filth, it happens in all cases of unrest/strikes usuall exacerbated by outsiders from some crackpot party or union.
thing is askyourgran it would be better in the summer
all those police means less on the side of main roads watching for people who have crept over the speed limit
Lol Dr filth our roads and paths are so blo88dy slippy atm. they know where they are better off.
we have had rain here for the last couple of hours
Hang on, the one's which come out worse will pay £7-50 a week back, in our town they pay that an hour in the pubs, financial hardship ? you must be having a laugh
I was talking to my husband about this last night. Maybe there should be some sort of sliding scale - if you do a degree in something that is needed (like to become a Maths teacher, etc) then you pay less. If you do a degree in the life of Madonna you pay more. If you drop out you pay back what you owe plus some sort of fine (this should make people think twice about going). When we were at university we didn't have loads of money but we always had a packet of fags and enough to go to the student union.
sherrardk even people who work buy df or snide cigs these days
are students this weeks benefits cheats/assylum seekers/travellers/fundamentalist muslims* ?
