What are your pet hates ?
In the absence of any noteworthy news we were talking in the pub about our pet hates on television.
There was past his sell by date Bruce Forsythe , the gesticulations of Ricky Gervais , the repetitious crudity of Little Britain , the banality and nursery level humour of comedians ,
semi porn in drama and comedy in place of talent. Few people could see the point in trotting out ex-celebs who had nothing new to offer, like Becham and Posh . It was a mixed group of all ages. I wonder what are the opinions of us ABers ?

And don't ask me - I have absolutely no idea what would be interesting enough to grab everyones attention. In the meantime it's back to the repeats etc. and put up with it. //I gave up my TV license a few months ago. Sometimes I'll glance and the schedules with a smug feeling, content in the knowledge I'm not missing a thing.//
I found your answer very interesting because whilst we all have our pet hates you apparently reject TV completely. I remember when I was a teacher there were a tiny minority of children where TV was banned in their homes and those children suffered socially and educationally .
Socially because children discuss and play games inspired by TV and educationally because of the ,TV knowledge based subjects ,history, travel, science , etc.
How do you compensate for that situation ?

Eddie, I read in the paper this morning that they have come up with some sort of technology that will actually stop people from skipping through the adverts on recorded programmes.
My biggest pet hate at the moment is that is has suddenly become acceptable, particularly in Eastenders for the actors to talk with a mouthful of food. It's gross.

I have not long had Sky but since having it i dont really watch the television in "Real Time" i just watch what i have already recorded and like Eddie says i too just skip through the adverts, its heaven!
I do hope that there isnt some technology coming that will stop the abliity to skip through the adverts but to be honest i cant see how that would be possible to implement and would be rather controlling?
I think the device that automatically skipped the adverts when recording programmes was the wonderful Tivo system that was used in the US and i think is where SKY Plus took a lot of its ideas from. I dont know if it is still in existence or not but it was i understand a very good and popular device.
