Elton John and his partner have become parents, with the birth (by a surrogate mother) of a baby boy.
Last year in the Ukraine, they were turned down from adopting because the Ukraine did not accept civil partnerships and also because of his age, he was then quoted as saying :
/// "David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said no because I am 62 and I think because of the travelling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child" ///.
So what's changed?

I agree SP, it's the bullies that need targeting. however, most schools, whilst ticking all the boxes with the right anti-bullying procedures and processes, will not tackle bullying and will actually deny that a problem exists, even in the face of undisputable evidence. this may be because privately the schools tolerate the bullies, as they exercise a control over the rest of the school population - according to a teacher friend who works in inner-city birmingham.

We aren't in charge of changing attitudes. Attitudes change over time due to exposure, law, association etc.
It just happens.
When I was a kid, the idea of a woman prime minister or an African American President was way out there.
The idea if civil partnerships was unimaginable.
The idea of a blind Home Secretary was out there.
Things change - and the fear of what might be after the next door shouldn't stop anyone from turning the handle.
It just happens.

Like it or not - money does make a difference. We're looking at a child that could possibly be bought the best education in England.

Now...bonding with Mothers...I didn't with mine, and she was a good Mother. As a Mother I cannot fault her. It happens AOG....life is not the same for all of us.

When this first became law that homosexuals could adopt children an article i read at the time written in a newspaper which covered various aspects and prejudices about this issue, the most telling line was when the author of the article said that he , a practising homosexual did not think that it was right for a same sex couple to be able to adopt a baby that could only be the product of a hetrosexual relationship.

What an awful thing to say. You're 58 and therefore you don't believe you have any more capacity to think? You don't believe in argument or reasoning? You believe you've reached the ultimate stage of development where your ideas are infallible?
I can't imagine why anybody would ever not want their ideas to be tested, or want to improve them. It doesn't just stop - it goes on for the whole time you're capable of rational thought. The idea that you simply refuse to change your views for the sake of not changing is an awful, awful thing to say.

Does the fact that a child will be bullied make its life not worth living? Is bullying a dealbreaker in setting up a family? Speaking as somebody who was bullied constantly as a child, it appears to be a fact of life in school. But I can also say that having changed schools numerous times (and through visiting various schools myself with a project I was on) that the presence and nature/direction of bullying varies HUGELY between schools. And even if they're lucky, a child can easily end up being bullied for behaviour or interests or whatever. Whether a child is a target can also vary based on something as simple as how big or strong they are. It seems like you're arguing against gay adoption on the grounds of something extremely hard to predict. The argument only really works if bullying always or nearly always manifests in the same way.

Speaking as a gay man, and on behalf of all my gay friends in long-term relationships, I can tell you that men can be just as warm and loving as women.
