Its more than curiosity jack. The public should know whether she was killed because of a sex attack, a burlary that went wrong, who to trust and mistrust, etc. Its just common sense!
Don't be silly.
The public (women) have been warned to be on their guard.
Quite what went on in her last minutes of life is essentially neither here nor there.......
and, of course, transvestites........
I don`t hold with this "the public has a right to know" business. They have a right to know if there is good reason to know, but there are many goings-on behind the scenes by the experts (of which the public are not) and there could be very good reasons why the information about a potential sexual assault has been kept quiet (to protect the sensitivities of the family for a start). If the public "need to know" they will be informed in due course.

If the killer has not yet been caught of course people are on their guard. Why state the obvious? What people are interested in is the motive which gives them greater information on how to protect themselves.
Thats being facaetious - more seriously women should be on their guard and the case may not be as simple as assumed. In the background was this very similar case that took place 35 years + ago in the same location and has remained unsolved......may not be related, but then it maybe.
How does it ?
If I live in Bristol, I'll now be taking greater care to ensure that my property is secure and that I do not leave myself in any vulnerable situations.

That's enough...........
As someone once said 'They walk amongst us'
I suspect that the police drip-feed information on the basis that, if everything was revealed, those idiots who contact the police to claim responsibility ( and they do!) for reasons of gaining notoriety and hence 'celebrity' would be in full possession of the facts.
There have to be facts withheld that only the true perpetrator would know.
Just as an aside, I've seen numerous lengthy threads, on various forums, on previous high profile cases, which caused me to believe that the contributors felt they were qualified to comment on the basis they had watched CSI, CSI Miami, CSI NY, NCIS....the list goes on.
I have no interest in the sick details of this awful crime, the poor girl is no longer with us. I'm just aware, as the father of similarly aged young adults, how the Yeates's must be suffering.
rov1200, if you think rape and sexual assault is on a par 'with going out with a bird' you are one twisted individual.
how to protect themselves? are you serious? there's a murderer out there.. no real need to worry about what else he may do if you're going to die. be prepared to die!

The house up the road was burgled last week, and it is an outrage that the police won't tell me what was stolen.

It would not help in the slightest to solve the crime, but I am very nosey.
// What people are interested in is the motive which gives them greater information on how to protect themselves. //

So if the motive was robbery, what exactly would people be doing differently to protect themselves than they are already doing?

This goulish desire for the full minutae of a persons murder is pretty sick. Stick to CSI rather than a real human tragedy.
//I was shocked that the name and many details of the police`s first suspect
were plastered all over the media. What happened to "innocent until proven
guilty"? If this person turns out to be genuinely innocent his life will never
be the same as before. //

Added to that , I recall a lot of people on this site had hung drawn and quatered him , soon after he had been arrested ; and simply because he had been arrested
It's just the mouth breather gene kicking in
I don't think he done it.....

I never thought he done it..
rov1200....that is an excellent question and I have been wondering about that for a long time.
It is very unusual for a 60+ yr old to commit murder.......it would suggest that he had either killed before, or that he was not the murderer.

The sex part is indeed important in Psychological profiling.......if she was NOT sexually assaulted then that may suggest that the killer was not in his 60´s.

These comments above are generalisations.
Generalisations are generally pointless.
I still think it was her father....
Where's Colin Stagg living these days?
