When a progessive one does emerge, he get's slain by the nutters, his own guard in this case. His crime? pardoning a woman sentenced to death for "Blasphemy". Can they they ever become civilised?

I don't often agree with R1G - and do not do so now - but what an absurd notion from LucyThomas7 that one's "lack of understanding of English destroys any credibility of (his/her) argument."
If that were true, we should surely treat every dyslexic as some sort of fool whose ideas we should simply ignore. And let us not forget that many of humanity's greatest thinkers were illiterate.

The point I was trying to make is that Pakistan is NOT the UK, and they have their laws (which include laws dealing with murder).
The implication in your question is that the country is uncivilised because some people have extreme views (that pardoning someone convicted of blasphemy is wrong - the usual sentence is death) and is in a position to do something about his beliefs.
So do the incidents in Iraq from a few years ago make the US or UK uncivilised ? Or is it just the individuals involved who are uncivilised ?

dont you just love the grammar stazi?
LucyThomas7 .... oh dear - does that mean that there are at least 6 others?
perhaps i will get fined for using lower case and no apostrophes
this medium is akin to bashing out a quick e-mail (a modern memo) and the conventions of grammar are not sposed (oops) to be adhered to precisely
in my humble opinion
methinks that if she agreed with the offending view there would have been no grizzling
if one is going to be pedantic at least be consistent, there is plenty of offensive grammar on ab for these types to moan about if so important
