Control the population growth?

Recently there was a person on the TV appealing for the west to send more vaccinations to Africa, which in turn would save hundreds if not thousands of infant mortalities.

The same evening they were highlighting all the food wasted in this country, and the increase in the price of foodstuffs due to certain global climate conditions.

All this got me thinking, If one could;d do something about the fact that some parts of the world have everything when the other half have very little, what would it be?

And please don't anyone say if it hadn't been for the British exploiting the continent of Africa, there would be no problem. They still had the same problems before any white person stepped onto their shores.

Even if we provided some countries with drugs that would prevent so many deaths from tropical diseases etc. this would only increase the worlds population and in turn the problems, providing them with food would also have the same effect.

Do we first need to control the population growth of not only these poorer countries but also the whole of the planet?

Control the population growth?

Gays (on the whole ) are doing their bit to help Docspock.
Jake, taking qualified Doctors and Nurses from Africa is a sin. Why should they pay to train and then we remove them into the NHS. What about the folk that paid to train them? Shame on you.
They had an Indian expert on saying that his country is a net exporter of food while his countrymen were dying of malnutrition. It makes you wonder why Britain is a big provider of aid to India when they are quite rich and food sufficient?

This probably applies to other countries as well.

The argument is whether it is preferable to prevent deaths from diseases or alternatively from malnutrition. Maybe immunisation and birth control should be applied in equal measure to stop the population overflowing.
i see it that there are two groups specifically that have a need to control their expansion.....

firstly..... stupid people who knock out kids without due regard towards the need to feed and provide for these children (of choice)

secondly.... people of inflated egos who have in excess of two children (per couple) or one each if in extended relationships, who consider that the world will be a better place full of children raised in their image

<<<<<<And (You'll like this one) immigration policies that see many of their qualified health workers coming and working in the NHS over here. <<<<

Nothing to do with the question, but it reminds me when i sat on appointment committees for Drs to work in NHS hospitals.
I asked why they wanted the job and they all said to help in the medical care of the local people. When I pointed out that the people in the sub continents needed you care more than the people of the UK, I was brought to heel by the chairman on more than one occasion telling me that I couldnt go down that line of questioning.

I would have been more impressed if the aspirant had replied
"I just can´t stand all that hot weather and poverty, working for bu99er all pay, so I have come here to work for bu99er all pay but with all the benefits that go with it.

Just a little anecdote for you.

Not to worry we do chuck some back, and incidentally doctors from the EU take preference.

In total 83 doctors were struck off in 2009, of whom 51, or almost two thirds, had gained their qualifications outside Britain

Of these, 12 of the doctors had qualified in Europe, while 39 came from other countries

The ten most prosperous countries in the World, and we are not amongst them.

The ten least prosperous countries in the World, and no we are not listed again.

I agree that your never going to turn te Sahara into Kew Gardens, but there ARE encouraging examples within the African continent where aid in he form equipment and education can and do make a difference. You can't insure against natural disasters and the whims of corrupt government officials, but you CAN equip people to look after themselves in that "give a man a fish and he eats today, give him a fishing rod and he feed his family for life" way.

/// "give a man a fish and he eats today, give him a fishing rod and he feed his family for life".///

I may be a little cynical but shouldn't that read,

"give a man a fish and he eats today, give him a fishing rod and he will sell it at the first chance he gets"?
But AOG with China trying to control the situation, they shot themselves in the foot. There soon won't be enough adults to look after the old people and work the infrastructure and there are far too many men for the amount of women.
I would have thought that family will be expected to look after their own older relatives, whether they can afford to or not. Where population control results in more of one gender than another, then that is a harsh short term lesson to learn to value both genders equally. But IMO China isn't going the best way about population control. It in controlling enough to use stick not carrot, and I'd suspect limited in convincing the public it is for their own good.
We could always stop dishing out money in child benefits and tax reductions to couples or singles producing more than two children
The population in Europe is declining. When we're all in our dotage we'll need people from 3rd World countries to look after us.
I find it hard to comprehend millions dying in Africa through starvation but the population there keeps on rising. It proves contraception is not working and maybe they should get the men to sign up for a snip. (pay them of course through their aid budget)
