Given the recent gaff by Andy Gray and co regarding femail lineswomen. Would any of the ladies on here care to explain the offside law?

i do understand the off side rule.but football would be a better and more exciting game without it
i do, when everybody in pub shouts 'offside' then its offside
A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is touched or played by a team-mate is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he becomes actively involved in play by

Interfering with play
Playing or touching the ball
Interfering with an opponent
Preventing the opponent from playing the ball by obstructing the player's sight or intentionally distracting the opponent
Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position
Playing the ball after the ball has rebounded off the goal, the goalkeeper, or any opponent
i cannot stand Andy Gray, and my football enjoyment has been blighted for years by this cretin. I gather SKY have suspended him and his cardboard cut-out friend.

Fingers crossed he will be resigned to the same golf course as Ron Aitkinson very soon.
Don't know, don't care but if I had been either of the two ladies maligned I would have commented to the effect that what can you expect from idiots other than spoken stupidity?
I neither know, nor want to know.
However, should I ever want to know, I am quite confident I would be able to comprehend it.....
Sals ... I'm sure you would, too.

It's one of those things that men find difficult, so they think we'd ALL find it difficult.

They'll tell you that using power tools is "harder than it looks" ... blah blah.

But could you imagine a guy trying to officiate in a Lacrosse game, having to make decisions about the positions of players within the Arc and the Fan, and within the Restraining Lines, when the players are moving about the pitch at a speed that would leave footballers for dead.

THEN they would find out what it takes to control a ball game.

Actually, when Lacrosse umpires get too old and unfit, they could become football linesmen.
Quite.
JJ totaly sexist remarks, if that was said by a man about a woman you would be up in arms,
Any question along the lines of "can one sex understand or do something better than the other" is just plain stupid! everybody is different and has different skill sets than other people regardless of their sex and there is nothing that either sex can ever claim they alone can do (well other than some obvious physical things!)
JJ....you can contribute to posts on the law, sex, relationships, motoring, Body and Soul. literature.............but somehow, you always end up on a Lacrosse Court.
Sorry jd_1984 but that is nonsense.
Dave ...

"sexism" doesn't exist in this town.

It's a concept which only applies to other parts of the country.

We make our own rules.
You do realise the origins and history of Lacrosse? In US colleges Lacrosse is huge and officiated by Men and Women
Sorry, sqad.

=0(
Dave ... I have a vague idea.
even if you have googled it jd.

R1Geezer................where's his explanation?
ChuckFickens - your point is a fair one, but that's not the cause of this furore.

No-one is questioning the simple fact that there are certain tasks specific to specific genders.

The issue here is that Messrs. Gray and Keys appeared to infer that the lady in question would be unable correctly to understand, much less interperet and enforce the offside rule, simply because she is a woman. That is obvious nonsense, and is an offensive stance to take on the subject.
