Regardless of what they thought of the wars, these two councillors should have been polite enough to stand , not for what is happening out in Iraq and Afghanistan, but because of this chaps personal courage in saving his comrades at personal risk to himself.

We don't want councillors and such, who only want to convey their own particular agenda.

Rather than wait until their constituents vote them out, they should be sacked immediately

Idiots voted them into office............so one reaps what one sows.
If people in their wisdom vote for these minority parties, then this sort of thing will present itself.
Why should they be sacked?

Under what terms?

Madness.

Couldn't the objectors absentee themselves.......we fight this ignorance with our hands handcuffed.
Treason?

Really?

Yikes...we've gone into a seriously strange area now.

If it were me I simply wouldn't have turned up, rather than showing disrespect.

It was put to me recently, "If you were introduced to a member of the royal family, would you bow?"

I always thought I wouldn't - but growing older, I think I now grudgingly would, because there seems little point in "making my point".

Same with this story - who cares about your feelings on the war in Iraq and Afghanistan - this soldier didn't start the wars, and isn't personally responsible for all the deaths which have resulted from the invasions.

So not standing up basically makes you look like a bit of a <insert swear-based noun here>.
I've read Matthew Crouchers book - smothered a grenade with his body to save his mates. True Hero. What have those limp councillors ever done?
Booldawg

I don't think we should get into a 'who's braver than whom' debate.

Firemen, soldiers, aid workers, police officers, marines, fighter pilots and lion gamers will trump 90% of the population, so its a moot point.
'tamers'.
Two people who looked different and acted differently to the rest.

What response do you expect other than derision.
oh the irony! 2 democratically elected councillors who treat with contempt someone who earned his George Cross fighting the Taliban - haters of democracy.

Run with the foxes, hunt with hounds?

Unfortunately many of these Asian councillers live in areas that are 100% Asian population, so they always vote for Asian people.

And of coure Asians are very good at "fiddling" postal votes (and note this is not racist, all the people accused of fiddling postal voting in Birmingham have been Asian).

Oh, what difference does it make if a couple of racists choose not to acknowledge one of our heroes who has put his life on the line for them and the rest of us?

Just as long as we don't have any surviving Taliban suicide bombers to be feted in this country, then there would be ructions. And those two racists would be the only ones definitely standing to applaud him.

However, as we are the most tolerant democracy bar none, they can stay sitting on their fat arrisses for all the rest of us should care. Just can't understand the kinds of numpties who elect them in the first place?

Their sort are probably the Muslim equivalent to the BNP?

Would it be frowned upon for a person who had entered a Mosque but didn't follow the Muslim faith, to stand when all others are on their hands an knees, pointing to Mecca?
Oh - I didn't realise that was the same thing OAG

When did a standing ovation for soldiers a become a religious conviction
The woman at least should have stood up - or does she approve of the misogynistic treatment of women by Muslim men?
