Keeping the English countryside white
Brian True-May the producer of long-running TV hit Midsomer Murders has been suspended after claiming part of the show's appeal was an absence of ethnic minorities
Could this be true? Are there people who will only watch a show if they can be guaranteed an 'all white' cast?
I can't believe that's true. I mean, Downton Abbey wouldn't exactly be realistic with a Muslim housemaid, but I've seen episodes of Poirot and Marple with black characters without feeling the need to switch channels.
Leaving aside this chap's right to air his views (and I disagree with his suspension), SHOULD there be programmes that exclude actors from ethnic minorities?
Should the ban be extended to other minorities (the disabled, gays etc)?

This is another example of someone opening their mouth without engaging the ' suitability' filter first - much as teenagers and old people do on a regular basis.
This silly man has pointed out the obvious, when it simply did not need to be stated, and got himself into trouble and quite rightly so.
It is quite true that for the remit of this (fictional!)...

AOG - //Speaking of TV adverts, have you noticed those bed adverts, of which some have a black guy in bed with a white woman?
But you never see a white guy in bed with a black woman, would the blacks never allow this, or are white women much more racial tolerant than their male counterparts?//
Have you really been looking out for this!? It looks like Joolee's hit the nail on the head! I can honestly say I've never paid any attention to the balance of mixed race relationships in bed adverts!!

I had to check your gender when I read this,
/// I know at least three very successful, attractive white guys with their own businesses who are partnered with very beautiful black ladies.///
Attractive white guys ????? This is strange coming from a male. But then to round it off with the right PC description "very beautiful black ladies".
But apart from that did I ever say you never see a white chap (attractive or not) partnered with (a VERY attractive black lady or not)?
I was referring to recent TV bed adverts, incidentally though just walk down your high street and see how many white guys are partnered with black women and how many white women do you see with black guys?
One would have to be blind not to notice the fact, that the latter wins overwhelmingly.

AOG - on form today eh! I don't think you'd have to be blind to not notice how many black women are with white men (incidentally my cousin is engaged to a black girl), I think more 'not bothered'! Although I think you're really just trying to tee us up for the old willy size stereotype, am I right!?
And I don't think it's at all strange for a male to call another male very attractive. If you can say another man is particularly ugly then you're judging on the same scale. I think it's a bit sad when a man is too insecure to say when another man is attractive.

I live in a village and only know of a few non-white families.
Even at high school which was mainly made up of people from surrounding villages but also people from pats of a neighbouring town, in my year group of about 200, there were about 10 non-white people that I can think of.
I don't think it is discrimination if that's how villages are like in reality.

There's several things I don't like about this.
Firstly, the producer should have kept his mouth shut. I don't think anyone had even noticed, or were bothered, until he opened his mouth.
It's true that there are many areas of the English countryside where it's rare to see a black or Asian face. There's nothing right or wrong about this. People, whatever colour they are, live where they want to.
There are many programmes around which only, or predominately, feature one particular race or colour. There is one music channel in particular, available on Freeview and possibly on Sky and Virgin too, where you never see a white face. Should white people be upset by this?
Does it really matter if a cast is all white or all black or some mix of the two? It doesn't worry me but it seems some people just want to be and look to be offended.
I do also find it odd and rather patronising when a black or Asian actor has obviously been shoehorned into a drama or programme where they are completely out of historic context and are just there to make up some ridiculous quota.

Everso sorry everyone but in my village there aren't any - and I mean any - non white ethic persons. Only Welsh/English/Scottish and the odd ( and I mean odd, bless 'im) Irishman. We're all white, Anglo-Saxons. But not all Protestants. We have a mixture of religions, Catholics, Baptists, Anglicans, atheists, agnostics, Buddist, etc etc. And we all live together and support each other and our lives in our village.
