From When Tony Was Pm
Often Mr Blair would walk the short distance from Downing Street to the Houses of Parliament, rather than take his ministerial car. On one occasion he encountered a prostitute, who offered him her services, calling out in a loud voice ‘£250 to you PM’. Taken aback at her brashness, Tony responded ‘£5 and not a penny more’, as he walked briskly past her.
This encounter became a regular occurrence whenever the PM walked to parliament and the prostitute happened to be touting for business – with the same exchange of words each time.
Then one day, the PM had cause to walk to parliament with his wife Cheri - holding hands as they walked past the street walker, she called out to the PM ‘See what you get for £5’.
