I don't get it. They would have numbered in Latin:

Unus, duus, tres, quattuor, quinque, sex...

"One - two - three . . . " in Latin is "Unus - duo - tres . . . ". Much more likely to have been " Primus - secundus - tertius "
And it is a very very old joke anyway. Wasn't it one of John Cleese's in about 1960 ?
