I don't know what to say now after the sad news of our lovely baffy leaving us.
It's fitting that it's raining outside.

I checked Tiggy III yesterday, tucked up snug and warm.
Just some shopping to do this morning, Then some ironing. What a day.

Lady ages ago when visiting friends in darkest Dorset local shops closed at midday on Saturday.
On the Sabbath day thou shalt do no work, neither thy ox nor thy ass nor thy handmaiden. Sounds good to me.

I remember when they closed on Wednesday afternoons too.
Made more poiniant that Over 50's didn't open last night.
on the day the village Christmas Lights are turned on a couple of our local shops stay open until 5.00 pm for the extra trade.

Shops opened at 0900 and closed at 1700. What happened to those days!

re Queenie, yes indeed. Having met Queenie a couple of times I can say that is typical of her. She's delightful.
I agree LJ and wrote something similar on that thread.
Early closing day varied from place to place. Up here it was Wednesday.

You're right Jack. the little corner shops were allowed to stay open.
Boaty I guess commercialisation, that was day when you got time and a half on Saturday and double time on Sunday. I used to have to do it because our heat treatment furnaces ran24 /7 and parts needed to be inspected after treatment, cutting them up and polishing sample and viewing under microscope
It was all to do with the 5 day working week. When I worked in a shoe shop back in the 60s we closed at 1 o'clock on Wednesdays and each member of staff was given a morning off when you didn't have to come in till 1 p.m. Never on a Saturday, though, as that was the busiest day.

You're right there tony. I never could understand why so many shops closed on Saturday afternoon.
In my first office job I had to work on a Saturday morning. Banks were closed all Saturday and early closing Wednesday. So long ago.

I didn't know that jack, I spent the 60's and early 70's in the army.
Yes Jack our local centre is open 8 till 8 7 days a week
