I cringe every time anyone says "None of us is getting any younger"
Another I fail to understand is a building "raised to the ground".
Feel better now I've got that off my chest!

lmao!!!!

Bet kate here feels daft now!
What don't you like about the first one- is it just that it's stating the obvious?
for me its

at the end of the day .... and .... what it is...... grrrrrrrrrrrr
And ,while I'm being picky, wouldn't it be "none of us ARE getting any younger"?
flipping heck boo dont be mean...you haven't even got your comma's in the right place lol
I think NONE IS is correct
May be it's the bad grammar that makes kate cringe...

razed/raised is a proper ambiwlans moment though :)

Thanks for clarification.Learn something new every day.Is there a stone I can crawl under and blush?
Kate B x
No.!! No stone is left unturned.:-)

Ron.
if you read none as not one it makes more sense.....not one of us is getting any younger...
Both 'none is' and 'none are' are correct as 'none' is classed as either singular or plural (see Chambers).
I was always led to believe that none is a shortened form of not one....oh well, live and learn...
Re Safiya: "flipping heck boo dont (sic) be mean...you haven't even got your comma's (sic) in the right place lol "

What was wrong with Boo's commas?
Nowt wrong with Boo's commas, but Safiya's apostrophe is superfluous.
I think she meant the comma after the word and. For some odd reason I did a gap, then the comma. So she's right, I stand corrected ;-)
There is nothing wrong with the comma after 'and'. It indicates a pause in speech. There should, however, be a comma after 'be' before the introduction of direct speech, and the 'none' should be 'None'.

Best wishes,
The Grammar Gestapo.
I'm with you sidkid, at shortened version of "not one of us is getting any younger".
