Army Nickname for REME
3 Answers
I half heard ( in a Pub ) the REME ( Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers ) referred to as " Creamy RE - ME " . I think it was meant to imply that they had a cushier life than most. I may have got the wrong end of the stick , of course. Is this a little bit of Army Humour?

REME have a number of nicknames such as Royal Engineers Made Easy, Spanner Monkeys, spanner w**kers and REMFs (Rear Echelon Mother F**kers), there are a number of others but the choice is vast. As for REME having a cushier way of life, the REME typically work far longer hours than many counterparts and consistently go for 2-3 days if not longer without sleep, as equipment may be needed back on the road at the earliest oppurtunity. You will find REME attached to all arms throughout the Army and have to serve alongside the infantry in FOBs and PBs so the term REMF is inconsistant with there responcibilities. But all nicknames I have listed are part of the Armys way of banter.
