what Rutabaga is? It's listed in the ingredients on my jar of Branston pickle. I was very disappointed when Google told me what this exotic ingredient is.

Branston tell me it's the correct name for swede but I don't believe it is in the UK.

Swede is the yellow root of a type of rape, brassica napus, and is called rutabaga in the US, Canada, France and Portugal.

The Swede's brought it the UK in the 1700s, which is why we call it swede.
I'm very glad they did because I love it.
They sing too.
I know what it is, but only because I bought swedes in French supermarkets and that is what it is called there. Very useful in stews - sorry 'casseroles'. :)
