I am attending a memorial dinner for lost colleagues from Bosnia. As commanding officer I didn't lose any soldiers in my Corps but did sadly men indirectly under my office died or were severly injured.
I have spoken at many a do but this one is more "informal" and I do not wish to be too patriotic or actually mention the war too much.
What I am after is quotes etc that maintain dignity and taste but can be addressed to widows and widowers of armed servicemen. Not the standard military ones.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

In tight situations it's the humour that relieves the tension, but determination and loyalty that binds comrades together and sees you through. Love is not a word that most squaddies use, but in the end, that is what it is. I will stand by my mates - no matter what because I love them.
Good luck W-M. Remember ' When the going gets tough, the tough get going' You'll do well because your heart is in the right place, sir !
