I only ask because some nerd on another site that shall remain namelecs, reckons it is daft to call Vodka Voddy as both words contain the same number of letters, but Voddy has only one thingy that you use two fingers for on your forearm in a game if charades.

Not always, I once tried to mime Anna Kareninna, actually they said Vodka then too.

At least your honest about it, no-one likes a secret drinker

I only drink twice a week now though. in the week and at weekends
Voddy is obviously not an abbreviation of vodka - it's more like the affectionate pet name you give to a loved one (loved by some more than others, eh Dot?) :-)
it's an abbreviation in speech - voddy takes 0.3722 of a second less to say than vodka, because it takes your mouth a moment to move from D to K; and there are four sounds instead of five. Less time is saved in typing - but even then some is, because your finger doesn't have to take time moving from D to K either. Nerds don't know everything.
Yes I do!
nothing wrong with the word voddy, hic!! easier to say when drunk

voddy has 2 syllables (vod-ee) same as vodka (vod-ka)!

as someone said its just affectionate slang rather than an attempt to shorten the time taken to say it.

how about we all call it 'vo' from now on? ;o)
