What proverb directly contradicts "Familiarity breeds contempt"

Familiarity breeds contempt means, I think, that the better you know someone the more you take them for granted and lose respect for them. The contradiction is either
1) that you show great respect for complete strangers or
2) that you show more respect for someone the better you know them.
I can't think of a suitable proverb that sums up either of the above: can you?

I think if you
a) dont always apply it to people - you can apply it to anything that you are familiar with eg your car, the nhs, buses, electricity etc etc
b) use the word 'contempt' in its widest sense - (it doesnt immediately mean you dont respect something , it just means you think it is beneath consideration) then it makes abit more sense.
Like turning on a light switch - you do it so often that 'familiarity breeds contempt' and when it doesnt work you dont half miss it!
