"To celebrate, he has taken Hungry Friend and I for a country ride."

Is such a sentence acceptable or not? I wonder what Quizmonster thinks!

Thanks for your comments ABers and do please have a nice week-end.

Delete "Hungry Friend and" and see if the sentence still makes sense and/or sounds right. That's your answer.

You just can't trust the broadsheets, any more than you can believe the tabloids....

Many thanks BM -my thoughts exactly. But there's always a second opinion regarding pedantic souls like us.

And if one does a bit of a toot - no correspondence will be etc., etc.

Ah well! Thanks again. Lm.

AAAAAAAGHHHH!!!!
no!
AAAAAAAGHHHH!!!!

Since you refer to me directly, Leo, I can but concur with BigMac and, clearly, Bernardo. Only the objective form of the pronoun is acceptable here...ie 'me'.
'Between you and I' is another - similar - bugbear of mine. Nobody, for example, would consider saying 'Between she and we'. Would they???

Thanks to you too Bernardo amd QM. Nice to know that Im not the only one who finds errors in the ST and has an AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH attack?

Well done all! Do have a nice week-end everyone.

I think there is a simple rule here ... leave out the other person and what would you say? In this case "... to celebrate he has taken (hungry friend and ) me for a country ride". Also, things such as "he is coming to stay with (John and) me". "(Marcus and) I went to the cinema". I know English is a hard language to learn ... but indigenous speakers should be able to do better than the Sunday Times Travel Quiz!

Thanks DQ for your support..

I, perhaps, go further, by suggesting that the Sunday Times should use much better English than many indigenous speakers.

But then again, who's perfekt?
