If you are of the House of Maher, it should be In Preculis Audax...Bold in Danger...

Preiculis could be a corruption of precula which is a prayer or beseeching, so its been mucked about by Latin scholars....not unusual as the family could have been around for a while and never bothered to adapt the original spelling/translation or use of the phrase.

A direct, but not correct 'cos of word order, phrase is therefore: 'Upon prayer bold', so its likely to be able to read as 'Upon prayer, strength' (but strength is not audax, so careful with that one) or' In prayer, boldness'

http://www.british-genealogy.com has a forum so you could go on that and ask if there is anyone that can she dlight on this further.

Obviously, a motto says whatever it says, but shouldn't this one read: 'In periculum audax'? That would be, as C suggests above, 'In danger, bold'.
And if you want to post the family name with any associations the family has like family seat/houses, someone may be able to offer something about the motto in relation to a crest etc.
