Bimbo - do the letters stand for something?? Is it a shortened version of something?? Does anyone know where exactly the word came from?

According to the American Merriam-Webster dictionary, the etymology is 'perhaps from italian "bimbo" baby', the word in English dating from 1919.
As Ewood says, the word did mean 'baby/child', but - oddly enough - it was applied originally to men not women! In other words, it was really just another form of 'guy/chap'. It did not begin to be applied to ladies of easy virtue for some years afterwards.

And there is an acronym 'BIMBO' which stands for 'Buy-In Management Buy-Out'. Whatever that may be, it appears to have little to do with the above-mentioned ladies!
