The very ancient Romans took almost all of their language from the Eutrucians ( not sure on that spelling at this time)They were another large Italian tribe who were far more advanced in the art of language and writing. After years of warring they were overtaken and their language and knowlege assimulated into the giant that would become Rome.  In any case, Latin is based in a very large way on the Eutrucian language.  ; It is said that Roman priests could chant old, mystic, Eutrucian phrases but other than  that, not much is known about the language. Only that the Roman tribe took it and used it. Later they began borrowing from the Greeks as well but my feeling is is that "virgo" is not a Greek word. Maybe it is. Anyone know Greek?  If it's not then "virgo" likely came from a word in a language that died a long long time ago.  If you want to know more ask an ancient Eutrucian tribesman.
