"Seize the day", in other words grab your opportunity while you can.
It's from a poem in Latin by the ancient Roman poet, Horace. The line goes on to say " and put not your faith in tomorrow" or words to that effect. "Quam minime credula postero" is what you could add if someone quotes "carpe diem" at you. You might just get a blank stare though. Not many Latin speakers around these days!
