Where did the word "faggot" come from in some narrow-minded people calling gay men that?

1. A term used to refer to homosexuals, often as a slur.
2. In these times not really used if somebody is really a homosexual mostly used insteap of calling somebody stupid or a loser.
3. You all got the derogatory terms down and the whole bundle of sticks, yet you forgot the fact that it is also a well known British food stuff made of some form of processed meat, usually served with gravy produced under the name of "Mr Brains Faggots".
