I was given a book by the Funeral Director after a bereavement with these stages: Shock, Denial, Bargaining, Fear, Anger, Despair and finally Acceptance.

Each stage has to experienced totally before moving on to the next - there is no proper time - every person is different.

The only thing i know is that people always say when u lose someone that "TIME IS A GREAT HEALER" , I didn't believe it!,however as much as you never get over your loss u do learn to live with it and "time is a healer" maybe not a great one, but all the same it helps. :)
get hold of yesterday's [8th May] Daily Mirror Miriam Stoppard devoted a whole page on the topic. If your library haven't got it then phone the Mirror on 0207 510 3000 and they'll post you a copy.
Previous responses have given a factual reply but I'd disagree with Cetti that each stage has to be experienced .... etc. In fact, the 7 stages are only a guide to help bereaved people, relatives, carers etc. No one person will necessarily experience ALL stages, nor necessarily in a set order and may jump backwards and forwards - so, it's not a set formula but may help people understand what's going on and so be better able to deal with this difficult time. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross was the first person to really talk about stages of grief and her writings make good and helpful reading for someone interested in the subject. Hope this is helpful and reassuring.
