Quite straightforward this week, but no less enjoyable for that. One small error, I think, in that we need the second and last letters from one of the 'extra' words, rather than the second and fourth. I've now promised myself to reread the writer in question for the first time in decades: thank you, Loda!

Hello Speravi,
To be honest a guess lead me to a search of what the Title cryptically represented, which gave the game away, before even starting to populate the grid, but definitely an enjoyable EV. It is certainly not prompting me to read the author's works! Time for a preprandial!
We are off to find some sunshine on tuesday, so will be missing for 2 EVs, but we are on the countdown to EV 2000!
Agree it was very straightforward but nonetheless enjoyable. The title was easy to "solve" and this should not make fools of anybody.
Enjoy yiour trip to the sun DocHH.
I have some of the works behind me as I type and really should re-read them.
Agreed, Speravi. Shame about the error. Looks like one by the compiler, though it should have been spotted. "conducted" might not have been as historically accurate, but would have done the job
Hello everyone. No, I haven't 'cottened on' as you all seem to have done as although I have populated quite a bit of the grid, seem to be stuck with an anon quote to do with yesterday - blame it on the jet-lag, however, will persevere.
Managed to see the sun at last which has to be good and can recommend Dominica as a beautiful island. However, we are in trouble with most folks for being totally underwhelmed with the Big Apple, different to but having nothing London doesn't have!! Will manage to get a look at next week's EV but imagine will be out of commission for a week or so after that as will be in the hands of the knifemen for a few days.......no, I am not worried, I am terrified!
Perhaps the setter was standing on his head when making that small error - it all works if that was the case! Nice gentle workout after the brain-buster Listener of this week.

DD, I hope your medical adventures go well. NYC does have one thing that London does not have much of - New Yorkers! My NYC-dwelling daughter got a job this week, so much rejoicing in the b household!
I have filled in a fair bit of the grid but I need a push please.
If it is not tabu could someone give me a hint as to the writer's name?
Maybe best to look trying to solve the title, Mampara. What is removed from the usual word, and what can that letter stand for? If you can see what title that represents, that will give you the author, and perhaps unlock the puzzle.
Thank you turnerjmw. I noticed the letter removed from the title but hadn't worked out it's significance yet.
I'll do as you suggest - Ta.
There's an eerie correspondence between our avatars, Mampara: are we related?

The title you want is three words. The first the plural of what the absent letter is an abbreviation for, the second indicating removal, and the third the normal word
A bit late coming to his week's puzzle and, as others have said, very straightforward.
Unlike one or two though I won't be re-reading him!

Enjoy the sun DocHH.
Hello turnerjmw.

maybe lolling about,TV remote in one hand and bottle in the other is the reason I missed the connection with the title and the author!
All sorted now and thanks for the tip.
Still not had another look, but have hopes.
drb - found the New Yorkers very friendly and helpful. Congrats to your daughter on getting a job.
Don't get burnt DocHH!
Well, I got there in the end! Still don't quite understand the EFV title however, just like you K "Once read, twice shy!"
Hi Devadolly!

Glad you've finished. As far as the title is concerned think about what the letter twice removed from the word can mean and look at a list of the author's works. It should then become clear. Will be keeping everything crossed for you when you go "under the knife".
Many thanks for the good wishes N - will have another look at the list etc after have sorted out the next freezer beastie to go tomorrow.
