Can anyone please give me a hint as to what to do with the perimeter on this puzzle. I can't seem to make any words out of it! Thanks.

There are four gifts hidden round the perimeter - these are 'gifts' under the Bradford's definition, ie other words for 'gift'. This bit wasn't too hard to solve - but you also need the names of four Greeks, who are 'bearing' these gifts. Their names surround the gifts - for example nicGIFTal' would be Nical and gift. Hope this helps!
