1 D. Old spray in stream? Right! (4) ??a? (Possibly ??ar)
5 D. Irishman getting horse dropping head (4) ??i?
This puzzle says 'extra letters created by wordplay in these clues provide a quotation'. I've got the quotation, so for 1 D. the extra letter is 'n', for 5 D. it is 'r'. Any help would be much appreciated.
Sorry, I missed your bit about the perimeter. The preamble says 'four items in the perimeter provide appropriate thematic illustrations' - I took this to mean that I'll find four things hidden in the string of letters all the way round the grid.I assume the items (whatever they are) are real words.
Hi Nical
My answer to 1D is a commercial brand name (chemical) but it is in Chambers. I've nearly solved everything bar 4D and 9A. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
I haven't finished this one yet but i have the two your looking for Indy-trier. Both are very unusual words and I'm not quite sure how 9 across works. 4 down is a word for floats and the missing A in the word play is from ROW (think boat) If you start ( 9 across with an unknown you will find the word (after a hunt) in Chambers. Hope that helps
Sussed it out now.9 across has an I missing. I was unfamiliar with the first part of the quote as given. A really tricky crossword I found particularly 1 down which took some considerable time
