I'm progressing slowly and could do with a bit of help!
11 across: Former star ultimately succeeds alto in musical performances (8) C_NC _ _ _ A I feel it should be concerta but don't know why.
4 down: Estates - cars styled around a type of Jaguar (5) AC_EN (I presume type of Jaguar is E)
Also with the nine clashes could someone help me with where the 4th clash is?
Thanks in advance.
My brain is too cold to think!
Thanks slaney, but I don't follow
These are my clashes (which could well be wrong!)
rUde with teeHee withODic
concertI with heAr
rePeater with Tire
speedeD with Barn with Tatt
acreS with screeN
stoW with wIsp
abbeSs with decoR
changing the letters doesn't seem to make real words in my grid with say teehee, stow, tatt etc
Ignore the two clashing letters - you need to insert a third letter that yields real words in both across and down answers. Thus the H and D in 10A, 7D become T etc.
Hi Saladdodger and Gregsdad. I've got as far as identifying the clashes (I agree with yours totally) and finding my new letters. However I've found a choice of letters that fit for several of them, and, whatever I choose I can't seem to make anything sensible happen apart from thinking it ends with WAY. Looking at 37A I think I know what I should be looking for but this doesn't help! Any tips please?
I'm also having trouble finding an answer for 1A. I have M?LO?A?H.
1A is Malagash, an inhabitant of Malagasy i.e. Madagascar.
You're right about WAY. The overall phrase is 1, 5, 3 and the middle word starts with T and ends in D. Have to admit though that I'm not 100% sure or convinced about the link to 37A...only word that seems to have any link or make any sense begins with S and ends in T but beyond that I've not come up with anything stronger.
Thank you Gregsdad. I had misled myself by putting an O in cell 3 and changing cell 7 to an E! That meant I had found 32a but nothing else made sense with 37a. It does now. I can now get back to writing Christmas cards!
I've finished it but don't get the answer to 10 across Instruction to golfer perhaps shooting 80 "laugh" I see Teehee must be changed to Teetee but where does that stuff about shooting 80 come into it?
