A similar quandary arises with 30D and 42A. Yet there are six other clues whose answer length does not correspond to the entry length. Am I missing something?
I am almost certain what I have to enter in the unchecked cell of 26A, which I have not solved (I have everything else), but since this cell does not intersect with a down answer, there is no clash to resolve. Any ideas?
mathsman: If there are A letters and D letters in across and down answers which clash, then you have to resolve (A + D), where 2

mathsman - you've probably sussed it by now but just in case... e.g. if a clue indicates 6 letters but there are only 4 spaces in the grid then that means that 3 letters of that answer must be combined with the equivalent letters from an intersecting answer to give just one of the thematic 18, and I would assume that you must write that one thematic 18 in the intersection space in the grid (but since I don't send it in someone would need to confirm that).
