Stilt sandpiper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
☑
The stilt sandpiper (Calidris himantopus or Micropalama himantopus) is a small shorebird ; it bears some resemblance to the smaller calidrid sandpipers or "stints".
Could be either I suppose - but as it fits the definition of stint in Collins and Chambers ( and Bradfords Crossword Solvers Dictionary under sandpiper), I would be inclined to go for that.
I would go for STINT partly because they used STILT 3 weeks ago when they were asking for a more general term, but I think that in the circumstances the paper should accept both- unless it specifically says it uses Collins and will accept no alternatives
Thank you are very much for your comments, at least it got the little grey cells going on a Sunday. After reading all your comments think I will go for STINT.
