Oh dear ... another puzzle with straightforward clues. The endgame was more interesting, however.

We must have a stinker coming up.

Other enjoyable solve. As others have said, endgame the best part, although I thought the clueing was also good too.
Thank you Charybdis
Got there in the end. Indeed, the endgame was the best part with a series of steps dawning on me one by one. Very entertaining, thanks to Charybdis.
Charybdis is this weekend's Inquisitor in the Indie too.
Very evocative. For those who can't, or won't, spare the time to (re)visit the original, I can recommend the relevant Radio 4 Bookclub programme (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006s5sf/episodes/player).
Very ingenious - and yes, RuthRobin, a smile from me too

Have also filled in the grid, found author and title and been unable to progress further. As relative newcomer to the Listener I'd appreciate a nudge in the right direction! [email protected] if anyone is willing to help

From the absence of any comments I assume everyone is clear about what is supposed to be outlined on the submitted solution grid. I'm not sure whether we're being asked to outline the shape referred to in the second word of the first instruction, or whether we have to go further and indicate clearly the "eight faces involved". The fact that we weren't asked to highlight the thing suggests the latter, but there are problems with that course of action because of the barring. That part of the preamble strikes me as a bit unsatisfactory.

Scorpius, I think if we draw the outlines of the eight faces in a different colour then there can be no argument as to whether the bars play a part or not.
Interesting question Scorpius (though I do agree with emcee's response). As someone who enjoys the Listener but who does not submit, I do not worry myself too much about such considerations. However being now a recent, but fairly competitive, submitter to Magpie I appreciate the concern as to exactly what the arbiters of these matters exactly want to see. Still frustrated at my one failure last year, and my already one failure this year due to no-one other than Charybdis (or should I say Chorybdis :-( ?
If I e-mail what I think are the instructions, could someone please confirm I have it right?
Gitto - try [email protected].
Tilbee,

Is the E-mail address correct?
I thought this was great - thanks, Charybdis.

I was pleased to have relatively easy clues leading to more time spent on the very interesting endgame. Resolving the final part of the preamble neatly led me back to spotting what was missing from the 'entirety' earlier on. Very enjoyable.
I was pleased to have relatively easy clues, too. Often, I read this thread and wish I could get the get the grid filled in the harder crosswords so I could experience the thrill of the PDM and endgame. Haven't finished yet, but enjoyed each step where I've found some enlightenment. I'm still puzzled by the significance of "entirety" and the seemingly missing letters from the title.
Can someone please tell me what at PDM is?
Sorry for the typo. What is a PDM?
Stands for "Penny-drop moment".
