REARS (office = toilet).
Question Author
Thank you fellow Professor!
Maisie to you prof.
Thanks Maisie, that's been really bugging me.
...and to you too canary42 (I've just got back from a day out).
I've never heard the term office for toilet but even so I can't see the rest of the wordplay/definition or see where Siemens fits in
fiction-factory -
'office' is American slang for a toilet.
'set up' (verb) = 'rear'
S is the abbreviation for Siemens
I'm pretty sure Chambers will confirm the above but I haven't got a copy to hand at the moment.
ProfessorM, yes, Chambers gives 'office - euphemism for lavatory' (No mention of it just being American) and S for 'siemens (SI unit).
Thank you Neveracrossword - I don't know why I thought it was an Americanism.
Thanks. I never thought of 'set-up' as rears. Bring up yes
^ I meant set up as REAR not REARS
My Chambers was handy, so I was happy to check. I knew office/lavatory/toilet, but couldn't have said if it was British, American, anything in particular!
FF, Rear = set up is also listed in Chambers.
Thanks again Neveracrossword.
