As per usual I'm stuck!
I've got most of the grid filled in, but, only 2 of the six 'single misprint ' clues yielding S at 1 across & U at 15 down. the six "word one letter longer" have eluded me completely!
So both the phrase & landmarks are a mystery to me!
Could some kind person give me a nudge or two to get me going again?
Thanks

Ripper, your misprint at 15 D leads to the A, you're keeping track of the 'displaced' letters (you've done that for 1 A). The misprints at 43 and 44 come in between the two you've got, and should lead you to the first word. The 'longer' letters didn't help me much - but they start at 20 A.

Hi Neveracrossword, due to your hints I now have a 6 letter word (yes, it's taken me ages!) But, what do I do now?
Ripper, take the six words - the answer to those clues - and form them into a shape (an obvious shape, given the word!). You'll have to play around. If you get them into a certain order, you'll be able to read the phrase needed.
Ripper, I should have added - the other vertical columns will have real words.

So? do I anagram the answers of the six to make a rectangle?
Gosh I'm really thick!
Sorry!!!
No, Ripper - the answers, all six letters, are just put down in a particular order. The first one is the answer to 15 A, the second is 30 D. That should give you a start - if you put the next four in, you'll get real words. Trial and error worked for me.

This just HAS to be easier than I'm making it!!
Questions:
I assume the wordsquare is not in the grid?
Is the left hand vertical word ciscos?
Is the phrase foreign?
Please could someone give me a big hint about the landmarks.
I've spent far too many hours on this to give up now!
Thanks for your patience!
Ripper, it sounds quite complicated, and it was - but it worked out in the end. The wordsquare doesn't go in the grid - it's just a means to find the phrase. Yes, Ciscos is correct, so you've probably lined them up properly. If you read down your second column (from the O in Cockle), you'll see the start of a phrase. It continues in the fifth. Let me know if this helps!
Ripper - For the landmarks it will help a great deal if you check the wiki entry for a specific location (with SQ... in its name) It is also a location on the phrase you'll get from the word square.

When you've changed 5 letters you're left with real words, and the landmarks are symmetrical across entries.

I'VE DONE IT !!!!!
Thank you ProfessorMaisie & Neveracrossword for being so patient with me
You're the one with the patience Ripper - I needed six '*'s where your five '!'s are, when i finished the ****** thing (especially when I saw it was a ****** shop!!!).
Ripper, I missed your post yesterday. Glad you got it finished and glad my 'help' wasn't more of a 'hindrance'.
