Having completed the grid I'm struggling to find the 'event'' which presumably has a connection with the Eucharist/Holy Communion.

Can anyon epoint me in the right direction please ?

If you have the items round the periphery (each beginning with a different letter from COMRADES) they can be found
associated with a religious ceremony.

Thanks Ulysses - are we talking about MASS here, which I had spotted in the upper left quadrant, but which I wasn't convinced about due to its rather arbitrary configuration ? I did wonder what connection Spectator Crossword Setters past and present could have with the Eucharist, and whether it could be to do with the 75th anniversary of the crossword.

MASS sounds promising, but it does appear in at least 2 other locations in the grid also.

Hi cruciverbalist,
The MASS I highlighted is in the bottom right hand corner if I remember correctly.
There used to be a Spectator crossword compiler called Mass as well.
