thanks cruciverbalist - all is quiet so i will tackle this while quaffing a drink as well
Thank you, Cruciverbalist.

I don't know about Fizz Buzz but I predict a bizzy evening and hope my brain doesn't get too fuzzy!
Ta.

PS I hope ED does not zap this thread.
Thank you Cruciverbalist.
Unlike Midazolam, I think I'd better make a start on this before quaffing a drink
Cheers
a lot of people around tonight already! Thanks C & have a good weekend all. CJ
many thanks C, I don't think I will get very far with this one, but ill give it a go.
How do you get this a day early? I have never even looked at a Listener crossword before, but interest levels have been raised by the recent correspondence! (un)fortunately going out tonight, perhaps to quaff a little, so won't have an opportunity to investigate further. Too bizzy and later too fuzzy.
"How do you get this a day early?"

It's usually posted on the Times website at around 4pm every Friday aternon.
'aternon' should of course read 'afternoon'. My pc/keyboard seems to be ignoring some keystrokes at the moment.
That happens to me too GRM after a spot of quaffing!
all that quaffing tonight must have had a beneficial effect - i thought this was going to be a real toughie with a lot of cold solving - but straightforward cluing and few hours of peace - it is all finished (and all the wine downed as well)
How are you folks accessing this thread?
I have the answerbank page bookmarked and used to type Listener 3987 into the search box (Site) but this no longer works. I found this thread via Google.

once again the search facility is down for new(ish) threads, one can search for older archive threads i.e. prior to listener 3986

I have been bookmaking the new thread each week.

Enjoying this but am stuck with 15 & 22 .I shall have a rest and take another look this evening.. There are some tricky entries at the bottom and finding the unchecked letters is giving me a headache - maybe a bottle of Merlot will help
Thanks Rapparee and bobbycollins.
Excuse my slow uptake, but how do you access the thread in order to bookmark it?
I have this thread bookmarked, but how will that help me find cruciverbalist's link for Listener 3988 at 16.15 next Friday?

At 16.16 go to the crosswords section and the link to 3988 should be on the first page. For updates, I usually go to my History of websites visited the day before and click on theanswerbank, and then the current puzzle number.
It was actually a cheap Tesco claret that oiled the old cerebellum. I had the 8 letter entry at 22 on Saturday but discounted it. Memo to self -always read the whole definition!

Tricky and enjoyable puzzle. I raise (before downing it) my glass to BeRo.
so was your "balance" affected with all that claret today since 11.32 am?

i had never heard of 22 before friday, but it was a very enjoyable enigma, that required a fair amount of alcohol to solve
Maybe I was a tad squiffy when I checked for the unchecked letters but I thought there was an extra letter. Still the thematic words were obvious enough. Think I'll follow BeRo's invitation!
