Hello EV Wine Clubbers,
Struggled with this for a while, but have populated the grid. All entries fully justified, although I had a bit of a problem with the definition of 41a, until I read "Our beloved Book" properly. However am still wondering about how the "unclued entry (of three words, (the answer to which I found sneaky)) explains exactly where the ten others" could go! Any thoughts!

Good Morning, well, you all seem to be a set of clever clogs this week! Have about half the clues done, realised 36d was an acronym but for the life of me can't drag it to mind and as for the very short 3 words.....................??
DocHH, Ginger Mog not allowed upstairs (he thinks he should be able to get in bed, not just on the bed so he is banned) though I suspect he might have jogged the brain with his purring.
Copelander, as it was an evening bag no I won't regret it, had it been for everyday use it would be already have been full of my junk!

Howdy, all. Checking in late because a) the puzzle was late and b) I couldn't find this thread. You guys need to start dropping bread crumbs for the latecomers to follow (or I should use the search function, duh).

I liked this one a lot; "normal" clues went in pretty easily, but I was tripped up for a while by mis-identifying two of the extraneous words. Upon further review they weren't as extraneous as I thought, so I had to go back over my answers to find the 2 right ones. Also fooled for a while by getting it into my head that the "3 word entry" just had to be the longest one. Well played, Lato.

I can confirm that the retail therapy worked wonders. Shopped with my daughter yesterday followed by a film ( Boat that Rocked - good film) and then returned to EV. Inspired at midnight and have now finished it (says she smirking!!) Must admit Chambers was invaluable - good job I recently bought the 2008 edition.Devadolly - Simnel cake is a real favourite here - hope you enjoy yours - but must admit I'm not skilled in the culinary dept. so resort to shop- bought.

Apologies to Rollo and Copelander! When I posted yesterday evening I typed 36d instead of 33d so I'm still completely in the dark about the completed grid. To recap:-
I've no idea about the unclued three letter answer ( which, I assume, is the three word phrase ); I'm not happy with my answer for 33d ( which I think is defined by the first two words of the clue ) and that is making me doubt my last across unclued answer. Not enough wine in the last seven days to lubricate by two brain cells I'm afraid. Time to have another look at it I think. I should imagine it's a case, as always, of my being preternaturally stupid.

Hint for Novalis re 33d.

The definition is just the first word. The answer is a word which has two entries in Chambrers. The second one is what is required. It has a Scottish meaning which I admit I had never heard of before. It has a "criminal" connection".

Hello everyone. Weather here is lovely and sunny, but windy today Devadolly. I have populated the grid, though mystified by how one or two clues actually work, so question marks about my answers to 13a and 42a (which I am using as one of the extra word clues) I have sort of married them all up including the three letter one, and don't seem to have anything left over to form the three word unclued entry. Have to stop now but will come back to it later on (after 9 p.m tonight, so will probably be brain dead by then)

While the 3-word phrase is not the longest unclued answer, neither is it the shortest.

Well said drb, that threw me as well, I was initially looking for a much longer unclued section. In fact it could also be said that a golfer goes there, albeit , cryptically and with few more letters! That South East corner was the last area I populated.

As far as bread crumbs are concerned, try looking for us at about 16.00 to 17.00 hours UK time on a sunday, even if your EV arrives late!
This Easter weekend I have family arriving, well initially my cousins children, aged 12 and 13. My cousin is bringing them to arrive tomorrow (wednesday) evening, my cousin is then heading home for a few days and returning saturday. Possibly with wife, another child and a 1 year old grand-daughter. I'm in charge of the ones arriving tomorrow, until my other half arrives thursday evening! Fortunately the 12 and 13 year-olds arriving tomorrow have declared me both "cool" and "wicked", so it will not be too arduous, unless I lose my status. All this amounts to an explanation why I might not get to grips with EV on sunday and therefore not start the Wine Club thread.

That 38d is an easy one DocHH - I would suggest you high-tail it out of town equiped with a few choice sandwiches and a case of mixed!
We have No 1 niece and Intended arriving Good Friday for an in depth wedding cake designing session (Oh my God!) hence the demand for Simnel cake. It is OK but the Intended wants the paste balls to be made as bombs - military man in the RE bomb disposal dept therefore mad in more ways than one!!
Not getting anywhere now with this EV (but as have had B12 injection hope it has kicked in for next week) but some hefty hints required, ie. does the three word entry end in an instruction to go N so to speak?
dr b we tend to crash on to the Xword part of the site as it is less crowded and the exhortation is 'first up posts'! Usually, if you enter the EV No on the site search it pops up, if it is not there - feel free to be the early bird.

Devadolly, not exactly an N, try thinking along the lines of EXACTLY and 3 words that mean thaT, in a series of 4 letters, and also what a golfer uses, or even approaches, 3 letters (only 1 letter in this EV instance! )Then look at the other hints regarding the unclued lights and the "instruction" to go to our Beloved Book"
Hope your visitors fully appreciate your dedication to cooking them Simnel Cake, when really you should be concentrating on EV!! How does Ginger Mog tolerate invaders!
Have spoken to herself, and agreed plan for while they are here, also have got suitable plans to retain my "street cred"

I can't possibly add anything to DocHH's splendid hints except to say that THE dictionary is invaluable! This now seems to be expanding into a culinary site as well as a wne appreciation one. That can only do me good, having gleaned some important hints about Jersey Royals last week, it seems to be on to Simnel cakes this week. I've never made one and probably never will, but will watch with interest. DocHH, how exciting to hear you're not only cool, but wicked too. Wow!! I'm away at the weekend so probably won't check in 'til next Tuesday.

If you remember, Devadolly designated our EV thread as a "superior chatroom" a few theads ago! We have no limits! I have personally registered the Jersey Royal tips and am waiting for those delicious treats to arrive in our local greengrocer! I think I have recipe for roasted cheesey Jersey Royals!
Actually in my school days, I worked as a saturday boy in the local Co-op greengrocer as a delivery boy, pedalling and peddling the deliveries on a bicycle with the basket on the front! As well as the greengrocery pacels there were "CleanGlow" fuel deliveries! Boiling beetroot in a tea-urn i the back room of the shop certainly drew in the customers! Ages me I guess.
Let's hope all the hints guide everyone home to the full solution!

Have happily discovered the three word unclued entry, thanks to the excellent hints, and have a finished grid, but still don't fully 'get' the wordplay in 13a.
Another major problem is that I can't get Jersey Royals out here and the thought of those 'delicious treats' is driving me crazy!

13ac is, I think:
Extra word is 'garment' defining a 5 letter unclued entry.
First 3 words lead to 'pray' with 'about' (=a) shed, ie dropped, to leave the last 3 words defining the answer.

I'm not sure I've ever seen "a = about"; like Christiana, I expect "about" to be c, ca, re, (or a signal for a word-in-word).

Couldn't get back to this yesterday as a friend came round to put some extra memory on my "infernal machine" and shoot the breeze/consume copious amounts of the blessed red.
Many thanks to you all for your very helpful hints, especially Rollo for putting me on the right track for 33d. Once I got that the rest fell into place.
As others have commented it is a little "sneaky".
