Do you feel guilty?

Yesterday I went to the butchers to buy some liver. As I walked into the shop, there, on a butcher's block, sat Pinky and Perky (well, not all of 'em - just their heads).

I know all the meat we eat comes from animals, but it fair put me off to see their heads on the table, looking at everybody going in and out of the shop.

I am an animal lover - I really am. Have rescued them for many years. I try to reason with myself that farm animals wouldn't be around at all if we didn't eat 'em. Just wish I didn't like the taste of them so much!

Anyhoo, do you feel guilty about eating animals? Or do you just tuck into your juicy steak and never give it a second thought?

Sorry, I lost it there for a minute - had visions of you rescuing a cow.......

If I had to kill myself, I'd go veggy.
We are the top of our food chain.

We are the only "apex carnivores" who kill their prey before they eat it ...

... because we are humane and civilised.

So ... no. I'm fine with it.

If the anti-meat brigade want to complain, they should wave thier banners at those nasty lions, eating the back end of a zebra that's still alive.

Now ... bring me a steak tartare and a glass of red.

hi mrs.c., not really a meat eater as such, not a veggie either, so I don't mind having the odd steak with loads of peppercorn sauce, not fussed on bacon, love the smell of it cooking, liver,,,yeuckkk, again the smell is nice, would never eat pork and that is because I collect little piggies (not real ones,,lol) I love them to bits
I was a veggie many years ago but I went to Oz and my cousin made veal escalops so it kind of ended there. I think as long as the animals we are eating have been killed humanly then I can deal with it. I completely disagree with halal meat though.

Jayne, if you had to dispatch it yourself, could you do it?
I am a meat eater and cant imagine giving it up for the cause but i don't like to see them as they are, if ya like.
Veal ...

Waste of a good cow, I think.

Let it grow into a big, yummy steak.

Mrs C ...

I don't know if I could actually kill it, no.

Probably not.
Veal is made from bulls JJ. If the veal isn't produced the little boy cows are culled at birth because farmers have no use for them.

rofl @ drf!
As a PS, I would eat it if it was killed by someone else, or died in it's sleep.
Isn't steak from bulls too, tiggy ??

I wonder why my last post (mainly in caps) was changed to small letters. Anyone know why this site does this?
''do you feel guilty about eating animals?''

No.... I couldn't survive on leaves and twigs and Tofu...
Mrs C ...

That annoys me, too.

You try to incorporate capitals to emphasise specific bits of your post, and AB puts it back into lower case.

But ... only sometimes !!!

Perhaps I didn't express myself very well. I don't mean that we should give up eating meat. I'd find that extremely hard to do, 'cos I like the taste so much.

I think I eat too much meat, I like it so much. But quite often when I have some, I think of the animal that lost its life (but don't feel strongly enough to turn me into a veggie, I hasten to add).
They are JJ but a lot of the are still culled and I think it also depends on the breeds.
BTW have you realised your name is meat - I used to buy dog food called Chappie.
Buying Chappie dog food ...

Aah, yes, those were the days ...

... catering for yourself at University !!
