The soprano tries on some slip-on tops. Could it be TEE SHIRTS? (Anagram of THE TRIES + "S" for soprano). I'm still working on the other clue.

My thoughts:-

"DEAD" is defined in Chambers as "UNPRODUCTIVE",
"DEED" is the Scottish form of "DEAD" & "DIED" (Chambers).
Morag is a Scottish name.
"DEED" is also defined in Chambers as "An EXPLOIT".

So, indeed, I am sure that the answer is "DEED".
