B + ALI(t)
B- British
AL (from almost)???
I = island

(a bit contorted, others may have a better explanation!)
bibble's is better
First letters British Almost Landed Island
I agree with bibblebub's explanation
B + ALI (almost ALIT- or is the word Alighted?)
tyrepill's is even better!
but what about 'on'?
I can't see it being based on initial letters as that would mean Island being used twice- once as an initial letter and once as a reference to the solution.
I think bibblebub's solution is perfect
the initial letters give BALO
OK, we'll go with that then, I'm just dead impressed with both of you ;-)

Thanks to all - rubbish clue to be honest!
Bibblebub and Factor 30 are spot on.

They certainly are Mike!
I agree with tyrepill.
Tyrepill's answer works (i.e. initial letters), but nowhere near as neat a cryptic solution like Bibblebub's and Factor's.
i agree with Mike1111 ,i'd had a few drinks at the time
How this to muddy the waters British and the the first letters of alighted=BALI
Hi weecalf. No I don't think it muddies the waters since that is essentially how bibblebub arrived at BALI- except that the word the 'almost' refers to must be 'alit' rather than 'alighted' since ALI is almost ALIT and not almost ALIGHTED
