Many thanks.
An awful lot of online members (including me) put Ideogram and it was seemingly a mistake.
But it must be idEogram, surely - unless a 'mari' is a horse...!
I'd got IDEOGRAM for 15 across. There's a MARE with GO in there, somewhere, I think!
ideogram seems OK to me
I agree with Ideogram, which I entered online, but no online members have yet submitted an all correct answer and most agree it can only be 15ac or a mistake at the Times ( which is not unusual).
Hi geo0939, I can't see anything wrong with IDEOGRAM. An ideogram is a character.
Both spellings appear on Google but IDEOGRAM appears many times more.
If the clue is accurate it must be ideogram.

This from OED

idiogram. Cytology and Med.
[ad. Russ. idiogramma (S. Navashin: in Zhurn. Russk. Bot. Obshch. (1921) VI. 171 he is reported as having used the term in his lectures for many years): see idio- and -gram.]
= karyotype n. 1 b: usually, a diagrammatic or systematized representation of a chromosome complement (of one cell or of many) indicating the number of chromosomes, their relative lengths, the position of the centromeres, etc.

ideogram.
[f. Gr. ____ idea + -gram. Cf. mod.F. idéogramme.]
= ideograph. Also used in transf. senses, esp. of figurative diction.

ideograph. Also erron. ideagraph.
[f. as ideogram + -graph.]
A character or figure symbolizing the idea of a thing, without expressing the name of it, as the Chinese characters and most Egyptian hieroglyphics.
scotman If you read my previous post you'll see that I don't need quotes from OED, I know all this. I merely explained what is happening on Times online.
Crossword Club members who've joined the online discussion at the Times CC website will have noticed that the Times has now apologised for the error over 15a and entries have been rescored accordingly.
