A father and son are out walking along a dark country lane one wet and windy night. They are stranded and see a lorry heading towards them. They wave at the lorry to gain the driver's attention, but it skids and collides with them. The father is killed instantly, and his son is seriously injured. Paramedics arrive, and the son is taken into hospital. As he is rushed into the emergency room, the surgeon rushes in, sees the lad, and shouts "oh my god, it's my son".

I would suggest that this 'puzzle' is 20-odd years too late to be effective, since who nowadays would fail to think that the surgeon could be female.

I did the first time I heard it. Most people I told it to couldn't work it out. I think it's probably due to the fact that most of us don't associate women with being intelligent enough to be surgeons.
