MM Links April 2011 [Week 5]

For the last time (“Phew” – a sigh of relief from me and no doubt some of you linkers), this is the Count” (aka middlestump) bidding “Good Morning” to all MM Linkers. Actually, I have thoroughly enjoyed my stint as the Royal Setter and would like to thank crofter for his support, encouragement and assistance. I’d also like to thank all of you for your enthusiastic participation. Just to be unpredictable, I have tried to avoid Cricket to date as a theme (although I did use the umpires’ equipment earlier) and will continue to do so today.
We’ve got two more notable dates this weekend. Yesterday, of course, we had that wedding of Prince William and Kate, which as expected received global coverage and today I should be wishing “Gelukkige Koninginnedag” to any Dutch Linkers; that is “Happy Queen’s Day”.

In Holland, it is something quite different. Started in 1885, it is a national holiday to mark the official birthday of the Queen. It is noted for its ‘freemarket’. Everybody is allowed to sell and/or buy things anywhere. Just imagine, evsajo – a nationwide car boot sale! It’s probably not a good idea to get separated from any companions on this day as absolutely ‘everyone’ wears orange!
Returning to yesterday’s event, I hear you asking me if I had a good time. Well, in spite of my recent ennoblement, I have to declare that I did not receive an invitation! I had got my hopes up when crofter dubbed me “Count”. To be honest, I am a bit miffed and I am thinking of emulating “The Beatles” and returning my honour. “What did you do instead, Count? Did you watch it on TV?” I hear you ask. No, I did not. I spent the whole day playing ‘Republican’ Croquet. I didn’t win, but I enjoyed the meritocracy.

According to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I will follow the usual rule on word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected link words may go in front or behind my challenge word! The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when crofter will disclose my final set of pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. He will then declare my successor for the month of May.
My last set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00 am.
