Week after week, players go away disappointed saying 'nul points' again and again.
This week there were murmurings about it being too difficult!
Was that because of the four-syllable words? or because of the scientific theme? Who knows?
We had just about all barometers suggested apart from a water barometer. We had just about every type of thermometer suggested as well - I didn't think anyone would risk (ahem) 'rectal', but it popped out right at the end! Where else would you expect it?
This week though, every one of King Jim's preferred chosen links was discovered.
First was player #1, Roslyn251254, with the popular choice of ANEROID BAROMETER quickly followed by Tearinghair for 2 points each. 14 other players collected a single for the same link.
Second player PaulineWard tuned in to the WEATHER REPORT for her 2 points and was later matched for singles by 5 others.
Third Player, Tearinghair, is obviously old enough to remember a CLINICAL THERMOMETER (2 points) and this pairing was also shaken down within two minutes by Slaney, Rockfordill, Centrino and Manxiemo to claim their 2 points on this. Six other players later picked up a single.
Well that was three minutes past 9 and already three links had been discovered (Who said it was difficult?). The weekend dragged on until eventually, at 10:35, FLOW CHART was discovered by TEACHER1 ( a double-hitter to boot). Two points (plus 1) and the only match for this, so maybe 'flow chart' was the hard one?
I would have liked to celebrate that achievement, but for the fact that we had a treble hitter! A player who only started last month scored 4 points for 3 hits (missed 'flow chart') duly gets the fanfare:
***** SOUNDTHE TRUMPETS *****
******** SHOUT 'GERONIMO' *******
**** HOTSHOT OF THE WEEK ****
******* GOES TO MANXIEMO *******
Summarising that we have bthis week:
4 points: Manxiemo & tearinghair
3 points: centrino & teacher1
2 points: beejay1124, SHAZZAHewat, paulineward, rockfordill, roslyn251254 & slaney
1 point:- 17 others
In all, 27 players scored 43 points so only 13 players go away disappointed this weekend.
