grass is fare (food) for stock (cattle)
rye sounds (to audience) like wry
Not sure of the SINGER bit though
rye [sounds like wry meaning sardonic]
rye-sounds like wry, grass to sing or inform
Unless it relates to a singer called Rye (Lou Rye?)
Sorry- singer = grass of course
'Grass' is slang for a police informant. He 'sings' (tells his story) to the police. He is thus a 'singer' and a 'grass'.
