Any help with answers or hints for answers very much appreciated.

Bit confused about how you come to the answers to numbers 4 and 50, could you enlighten me please??

4 Fire = sack, dismiss etc. fighter= boxer (sport of boxing)

Thanks quizman, that makes that answer clearer but still can't fathom the two suggestions for number 50.

50 could be Artisan, depends how cryptic the clues are. Usually in crossword clues any reference to a craftsman the answer is Artisan. Artisans are usually at the top end of skill in their profession.

40 I suggested surveyor on Monday.
Re no50 several answers could fit the clue.
I thought foreman but the answers relating to ships are better.
