thanks folks - I never thought of morning coat !! Not sure which of the oter two answers I should go with ??
mackerel and chips?
Macaroni cheese?
Does your chip shop sell macaroni cheese, kalimera?
Haha Tilly no it doesn't but this one does http/finestcatch.co.uk!
That would be a strange clue for macaroni cheese, though. Maybe medium cod? Can't think of anything convincing.
Main Course?
We're all reading this as 'chippie' when in fact OP has put 'chipper'. Should we be looking elsewhere or is it a typo?
I did wonder if it was anything to do with carpentry. But didn't come up with anything there, either.
Mock chop
I don't think I'd want anything from a carpenter for supper!
Anyway a chipper is an informal name for a fish-and-chip shop in Scotland.
...depends how cryptic it is, calibax
Nice one stockethill!
I've never heard the expression before:

"humble mock chop consists of minced lamb and beef with a spicy seasoning through it in the sort of shape of a chop, hence the name "mock" chop. Hope this satisfies the hunger....."
Ta also to Calibax, but it will always be 'The Chippy' to me (Lancashire)
Morning Suit
oops! didn't see the M.C
